Locked Nucleic Acid (LNA) NTPs are modified nucleotides containing a bicyclic sugar moiety where the ribose sugar is locked into a rigid C3'-endo conformation by a methylene bridge between the 2'-O and 4'-C atoms.
These modified NTPs are excellent Taq polymerase substrates and the resulting LNA-modified DNA probes possess an unprecedented thermal stability upon hybridization resulting in an increased sensitivity.
