Description:
Ran belongs to the Ras superfamily of GTP binding proteins. It acts in cellular processes such as nuclear transport, mitotic spindle assembly, and post-mitotic nuclear assembly. The mutation Q69L abolishes GTP hydrolysis. The mutation G19V results in a gain-of-function mutant that is not, however, sensitive to the exchange factor RCC1. Protein preparation is 19% GDP-loaded, measured by HPLC.
