LEXSY (Leishmania Expression System) is a eukaryotic protein expression platform based on the S1 classified protozoan L. tarentolae.

It combines the advantages of prokaryotic systems (easy handling, fast growth) with those of eukaryotic ones (efficient folding, posttranslational modifications).

Of more than 70 proteins, whose expression in other systems like E. coli, yeast, insect or mammalian cells was unsatisfactory, 80 % were successfully expressed in soluble and active form with LEXSY.
