The LEXSY expression system, based on Leishmania tarentolae, was originally developed at the Max Planck Institute in Dortmund and was one of the founding ideas that eventually grew into Jena Bioscience as we know it today.
More than two decades later, it remains an important and successful part of our portfolio. This is largely due to the ongoing commitment of Dr. Andreas Licht, who has been leading the LEXSY department since 2017. Together with our experienced technician Stefan, the team manages to support researchers worldwide in producing recombinant proteins using one of the most versatile eukaryotic expression systems available.
The LEXSY expression system achieves success rates of approximately 90 % for intracellular and secreted proteins and around 80 % for membrane proteins, making it a powerful option when protein expression becomes challenging.
If you ever face trouble expressing your eukaryotic protein in E. coli, insect cells or any other high-maintenance expression systems, Andreas and Stefan are always happy to help.
As our biological safety officer and long-standing LEXSY expert, Andreas combines scientific expertise with kindness, never-ending curiosity and a genuine willingness to support others.
