Jena Bioscience again sponsored the prices for the three best posters in the category “biological structures”at this year’s DGK annual meeting (DGK = Deutsche Gesellschaft für Kristallographie, German Crystallographic Association) in Hannover. This has become sort of a tradition - we sponsored the price for the third time this year. Although we were not exhibiting at this meeting, Thomas went up to Hannover to attend the conference banquet and to hand over the prices to the lucky winners.
With this sponsorship, Jena Bioscience aims to support young creative scientists from the crystallography community. And no, we were not part of the jury that chose the best posters :-)
Congratulations again to the three of you!

India is a growing economy and a growing player in the field of crystallography with around 40 groups now. The 2008 EMBO World Lecture Course on “RECENT DEVELOPMENTS IN MACROMOLECULAR CRYSTALLOGRAPHY” took place in Pune from November 9th to 14th. The lecturers, both from
India and elsewhere, included internationally renowned scientists such as
Ted Baker, Eleanor Dodson, Zbyszek Dauter, Gerard Kleywegt, S. Mande.,
T.P. Singh, Joel Sussman, M. Vijayan and B-C. Wang.
Our very special thanks go to Biotech Desk, our distributor in India. Biotech Desk represented us at the lecture and Shradha -who is the managing director-awarded the poster prizes that were sponsored by Jena Bioscience.
Shradha with two of her sales managers at the booth:
Susanta Paul, based at New Delhi; Shradha Goenka, managing director; and Jaganmay Anand based in Hyderabad

“The first BIOTECHNICA to be staged under the new annual cycle successfully passed its first test….The changeover to an annual cycle has proven the right decision” says the end-of-show report at Biotechnica website. As a start: Deutsche Messe organized the exhibition perfectly. Not only in terms of on-site support, but also in terms of online features for exhibitors. However, the show has become smaller and my impression was that there were more joint biotech region booths than last year. Nevertheless, after a rather slow start of the show, the stream of visitors was enormous. One reason for that might be that the visitors only had one exhibition hall to stroll around this year ;-). We had interesting talks with our customers, established good contacts and our chocolate fountain attracted many visitors to stop by at our booth.
The future will show whether the decision of the organizers to hold Biotechnica at annual intervals was the right one.

Thank you all for stopping by at our booth at the IUCr 2008 meeting in Osaka!
It was a real pleasure to talk to so many participants! We had a wonderful time in Osaka and many fruitful discussions. Check out all the pictures we took in Osaka at
Meet us at Biotechnica in Hannover from October 7-9, 2008! You will find us in Hall 9 at Booth F12. This booth is a joint booth organized by Friedrich-Schiller- University Jena and this is how it looks:

This year, we’ve got a special treat for you: Our chocolate fountain will be in use every afternoon from 3pm-5pm. Come to our booth and find out if you can overcome this temptation!

Our special thanks go to our kids team “Firebolt”.
Although it was pouring with rain, these boys bravely fought their way to a very good result: They were faster than many adult teams!
